Yes, it's true. Today I got my ass handed to me by a person of the female persuasion on Guitar Hero. Two things I'd like to point out: First is that the lady in question is my missus, and so the pwnage happened in the privacy of our happy home. And the second is that she is an awesome drummer and so has phenomenal rhythm - And is just plain better at Guitar Hero than me!
But still - It's a weird feeling. When did girls get good at games? (Please hold your hate mail to the end of the post)
Before now the closest girls I met got to gaming was Mario Kart or some other GameCube primary coloured madness. I know there MUST be some hardcore gamer girls out there, more so now - I've just never met them. Until now (and she's mine)!
We'll never be WoW buddies, and I doubt she'd fancy any Counterstrike action. But still, I love that we can play games together and that as a society we are able to accept gaming for what it is and what it can be - Bringing it blinking out of the murky shadows and spotty LAN parties. I've worked previously, trying to extol the virtues of computer gaming as a more rewarding experience, utilising it's potential for immersive learning. But just to see it being universally accepted is something I still occasionally have to sit and marvel at. Thank God for the mass cultural revolution that the Wii has caused.
Long live 'Social Gaming'! Now pass me my GH controller, I need to practice.
